What is Yin?

Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures that are held for longer periods of time—for beginners, it may range from 45 seconds to a few minutes; more advanced practitioners may stay in one asana for five minutes or more.

Yin yoga poses apply moderate stress to theconnective tissues of the body—the tendons, fascia, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.

Yin yoga helps us to calm the mind and enhances meditation practices, or helps us to start one. It allows for a deep rest and relaxation of the mind.

Benefits of yin:

*Target the connective tissue to release tension, helping with flexibility and range of motion in joints.
*It releases deeply held tension in the body.
*It is the perfect balance and complementary movements to your workouts and busy, active lifestyle.
*Increase circulation, mobility and range of motion.

If you haven’t tried yin yet, I encourage you to! You will leave feeling calm, centered, open, rested and refreshed.

Yin is a unique style of yoga comprised mostly of seated poses that work predominantly on the tendons, ligaments and fascia of the shoulders, hips, legs and lower back.

The poses target tightness, allow for deep release of tension, help to improve circulation and flexibility.

Yoga Benefits Calgary

We slow things down in Yin, holding the poses for 3-7 minutes, allowing for a complete and deep release into the body.

From a physical standpoint, Yin postures are all about release. Releasing that stress and tension, allowing us to relax and let go, both physically and emotionally.

Yin allows that time for us to not only slow down our bodies, but also allowing that much needed time to slow down and rest our thoughts and quiet our minds.

We are always so busy, going and doing, running from one thing to the next.

When was the last time you just sat and breathed? Yin creates that much needed time. As we work into and release the tension from our bodies, we also can release and rest our minds, allowing ourselves to simply be, still and fully present in this very moment.

Yin is magical, and the perfect balance that we all need in our lives.
