If you have experienced a sound bath, you may be familiar with listening to bowls and gongs played around the room. Direct-on-body Tibetan bowl therapy in Calgary offers a different format: selected bowls are placed on the clothed body, allowing you to feel their vibration as well as hear their sound.
At Joy & Vitality Centre, Sergei offers private sessions inside our Himalayan Salt Cave. Before you book, here is what to know about the experience, how it differs from a group sound bath and how to communicate your preferences.
Explore sessions with SergeiWhat does “direct-on-body” mean?
The name describes where the bowls are placed. Rather than keeping every instrument beside you, Sergei places selected Tibetan bowls on areas of the clothed body. Placement may include the chest, abdomen, back or legs, depending on the session and your comfort.
When a bowl is played, you may notice its vibration at the point of contact. This physical sensation is a defining part of the format. You can ask Sergei to explain the placement before a bowl is positioned.
How is it different from a group sound bath?
In a group sound bath, several people usually share a listening experience while instruments are played in the space around them. A private direct-on-body appointment focuses on one person and includes individual bowl placement.
These are different ways to experience sound. If you prefer listening without bowls resting on you, explain that when enquiring. If you are curious about feeling vibration through contact, ask about the direct-on-body session.
Do I remain dressed?
Yes. You remain fully clothed during the session. Choose comfortable clothing and ask our team beforehand if you have questions about footwear, jewellery or accessories.
This is not a massage appointment. The experience centres on sound and bowl vibration rather than massage techniques.
You can ask for an adjustment
Speak up if a bowl feels uncomfortable, a sound feels too loud or you would like a pause. You can ask for a bowl to be moved or removed. You do not need to tolerate discomfort to participate.
Tell Sergei about areas you do not want bowls placed on before the session begins. Your preferences remain relevant throughout the appointment, even if they change once you experience the sound.
Do I need to meditate?
No particular meditation skill is required. You do not need to clear your mind, follow a visualisation or produce an emotional response. You can simply notice the sound and communicate how you are feeling.
Experiences vary. You might enjoy the quiet time, notice the changing tones or find some sensations unfamiliar. There is no required response and no need to compare your experience with someone else’s.
Where does the appointment take place?
Sergei’s private Tibetan bowl sessions take place inside our Himalayan Salt Cave at Joy & Vitality Centre in Calgary. If you have questions about halotherapy or the room environment, raise them before booking.
A standard Salt Cave booking is a separate service. To arrange an appointment with Sergei, choose the Tibetan Bowl Therapy service or call us to confirm which booking to select.
What should I mention before booking?
Let us know about sound sensitivity, positioning needs or any area where pressure or contact is uncomfortable. If you have a medical condition, recent surgery, an implanted medical device or are pregnant, ask your healthcare provider about suitability and discuss any restrictions with us before making an appointment.
This is a complementary wellness experience. It does not diagnose or treat a medical condition and should not replace medical care, counselling or prescribed treatment.
